Björk and active forces of nature conservation challenge a Minister today

Björk Guðmundssdóttir united the active forces of nature conservation in Iceland, to challenge the Minister of Tourism, Össur Skarphéðinsson, for the Tourism Convention.

A challenge for the Minister of Tourism to make an effort in nature conservation

Nature conservation interwined with tourism is a powerful way to market Iceland as an interesting destination for travellers.

Nature is our most important resource. The act for nature conservation over the recent years and decades, is the best tool to introduce the uniqueness and attraction of Iceland. The act for nature conservation has concentrated on the most important subject matter of our time. Icelanders could be global leaders when it comes to forming a new energy policy and a new attitude towards nature.

It is evident, according to public information, that neither an aluminium plant nor a power plant will rise or be expanded in the upcoming months or semesters. The production of aluminium have recently slumped, the price of aluminium dropped, and the capitalization of huge power plants consequently almost impossible. The government is obligated to find new positive ways for building up a diversive economy and sustainable development at peace with nature.

Discussions today at the Tourism Convention (http://www.ferdamalastofa.is/displayer.asp?cat_id=621&module_id=220&element_id=4342) will be about how the tourism in Iceland can be reinforced. A number of new ideas have recently surfaced of unused potentials in tourism. These creative ideas can not be abandoned because of ideas of heavy industry, that have for too long pushed other development efforts out of the way.

The following Acts of Nature Conservation challenge the Minister of Tourism, Össur Skarphéðinsson, to declare at the Tourism Convention today, that a new energy policy will now be a priority in tourism towards the future.
