Charlotte is organizing Green-drinks in Iceland

As part of the Green-days-program in the University of Iceland, there will be a meeting of green grass-roots in the Nordic house on friday, 6th of march at six. Charlotte Ólöf Jónsdóttir Ferrier is the organiser of those first green drinks in Iceland and she explains this important net-work phenomenon for nattura.info :

Green Drinks is an international, informal networking event where environmentally minded people can connect over drinks. Started in London in 1989, it is now active in 448 cities worldwide; from Johannesburg to Manila, Hyderabad to Istanbul. At Green Drinks you will find an interesting mixture of people from academia, NGOs, government and businesses. Other cities have found the event a catalyst for connectivity, community, collaboration and change in the environmental sector. Although Green Drinks is an organic, self-organising network, many people have found employment, made connections and friends, and developed new ideas. March 6th 2009 will be Reykjavík’s first Green Drinks. Norænna Húsið will host the event at 18.00 and will have a selection of organic wine and beer for sale. Please check Reykjavík’s page on www.greendrinks.org for details on future events.

Spark! workshop series on self-sustainability and start-ups

Björk Guðmundsdóttir calls for workshops gathering individuals who have worked on proceeding self-sustainable companies and aim for innovation. Among these are start-up companies and post-seed companies, representatives for economic and social development, academics, inventors and investors.

The workshop’s conversation deals on possible progress, on obstacles, and various ways to connect inventiveness, innovation, start-up companies, and to activate the interconnection to other clusters of similar relations and to the motive power of international expertise and market forces.

Icelanders stand at crossroads: Are we going to choose a single-track industry or administer to diversity and openness to other ways? Permanent and fertile diversity exclude quick-fix-solutions that economically, socially and environmentally deplete the resources that are fundamental for a self-sustainable development.

To flow

Vatnsæðar Íslands

Björk and Nattura.info organized, as have been stated earlier, series of work-shop meetings in the Reykjavik University,

to discuss the possibilities of start-up and spin-off companies in Iceland in the light of a self-sustainable evolution. Due to a catastrophic economic situation in Iceland this work took on a whole new dimension. And it will continue to do so.
One of the seed-ideas that has been nurtured during the period of preparing the work-shop series, is the idea of Iceland as a whole of wellness places. In reconsidering the conditions of building up a self-sustained culture, economically, socially and environmentally, it helped thinking of Iceland as a cluster of diverse growths. And to think of water flowing in-between them!
The wellness places, natural swimming-pools and spas all over Iceland, as depicted by “Waterfriends” (see the article below), could thus be seen as the core of a collaboration between the field of health, r&d and education, culture and tourism, field of food-industry, design, bio-technology, high-tech. All to be overlapped in the field of self-sustainable energy.

Being Childish

an icelandic senator has called me childish because i want to protect nature , which i find peculiar because i actually find it so incredibly childish , when the whole world is holding its breath because global warming might kill all the humans within 50-100 years, to increase our co2 emission by 19 tons per capita, which places us in third place worldwide, just after australia and the u.s.a.
